I am amazed that I am returning to Cape Town very soon, time really flies, and very soon I'll be finishing my second year...
I am really enjoying life here though =), it might be a bit hard sometimes but it's worth it as I am doing something completely different in my life.

I was called the "Revit Master" yesterday by my Boss =), that felt good! Oh yeah xD.

Glad it's Friday, need some rest before I go back to University work! No Fun for me this weekend.

Enjoy yours and stop reading my blog, go back to WORK! =P

Friday, 7th October 2011

Ahhh new month, new ideas, new begginings.

Hyde Barn is all I can say... =)

As a coleague and I have been working on a project for about a month, we are finally getting there.

We have been modeling options designed by my boss for a convertion for this house in a rural area.

Revit renders, images and plans and elevations have finally been sent to the client.

But we are still working on it, much more to come.

Although, I love this particular project, it's FUN! =)

Friday

This week was very hard for me, I have been struggling with a flu and a hamstring injury which made me absent for a few days and had to seek medical treatment in my country (Portugal) where my parents helped me with all the procedures and transportations.

But I returned better and healthier, ready to work.

YES!!! =)

Friday, 23rd September 2011

We have been trying to move out to another office for months, and it seems like we are getting closer.

This week my Boss was very busy making arrangements for the office change, which is right next door =D.

But it is very small though, so it's gonna be very awkward to work in a small room, instead of a big one.
Although we are a small practice.

But overall it's been fun so far, and can't deny that I learn more and more everyday.

Later! =)

Friday, 16th September 2011

This week I felt really comfident!!

More phonecalls and emails taking place in my name, oh yeah!! =D

I have been picking up the phone more times, and improving my communication skills.

Also I have been improving my Revit skills a lot!!!!

I feel like nothing can stop me in it and I can do anything in it! =)

More different projects coming up.

Regards,

Friday 9th September 2011

Another week of hard work in the office, with projects like Malwood, Tender, Steeple and Raneleigh.
Still lots of more work to come.

Another major change that took place in the office was the fact that three of my coleagues and friends have left the company to return to University, which was quite sad.

But the company still very busy and moving on with our work

Byeee! =)

Friday 2nd September 2011

During this week I have been very busy with the Raneleigh project wich consists of 50 houses on the site.
I have been modeling them on Revit and making alterations on CAD as well.
It also consists of flats of 2 and 3 bedrooms, single and doubles.

Overall the week has been very busy, and the weather was great, nice and sunny =)

Cheers.

Back in the UK

Houston!

We are back in Europe =)

I really enjoyed the week back at CPUT, had lots of fun and enjoyed every single lecture.

Although, I just read the marks of our Hub presentation, and my marks are NOT what I expected. Only 40?

I know I worked way harder than that... :S

But I know I can improve.

So this is what I have to say this week. I am really disapointed, with the outcome. How can one project decide all my hard work at the office and make fail the subjects?
Anyway...Going back to work.

Cheers.

Time Flies

Wow! Here we are.... Six months have gone by, so quickly! It makes me nervous just thinking about that I'm about to go back to Cape Town and present my work.
It's been amazing going through this experience, I love it here =)...I do miss Cape Town though, but there's so much more opportunities up here! =) So many things to do, easier to do than in Cape Town.

So many things to see and know about...

But I am quite ansious to return for a while, see my friends, coleagues and my brother... It's bee good so far, and much more to come...It's a bit hard to keep up with uni work though, as there is so much to do here at work. But will do my best! =)

Regards to all of my friends and coleagues in CPUT!

Cheers =)

Changes

Wow, my appologies...

It's been a while since I've posted a a message on my blog about my experience in the UK.
Things have changed, I've managed to find an easier way to get to work.
Finally I have a bank account, so that means I can start receiving my income.
I have been very busy with work around here and I am need even more! =)
REVIT 2012 has arrived so thats an improvement for the company, as we are fully updated and ready to move foward towards the Future, because REVIT is the future. =D

In other aspects, the weather is great (you may be surprised), most of the days are sunny and warm.
And I am going to visit Paris_France in June, so I will post some nice photos of the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower! =)

Variety

I have finished modelling up on Revit the latest project that I was in charge of.
The 1920's Arts and Crafts style Walkhouse.
I have modelled the entire landscape (except the trees because they would hide the design of the building).
Now I have been busy with the elecrical layout of the house, plus some modifications made by my Boss.
We haven't moved into the extentions yet, but soon we will be busy with that.

I am looking foward to carry on with this Company and develop myself.
New projects, new surveys and new views!! =)

Cheers!

Fast Week

I think that this week went really fast! =P No complaints though.

I have t say..I havte been really focused on work, barely have time for myself, and that includes university work, which I know that is not good. In a way, beeing away from the Uni keeps me slightly "of track", but I have to try and stay focused.

I think that my daily journey to work is very exausting, but I really don't mind. Another downside is that I don't have internet at home. That delays me a bit. Also, the fact that I don't have the material/equipment to build models also slows me down, so I have to work with REVIT, which is ok but it takes time.

I want to stay focused on a balanced pace, regarding University work and Work.

Anyway, I'm glad that it's the weekend, because I need some rest from my daily cycling to work plus train.

Have to stay focused!!

Cheers =)

One More Step

Hi CPUT!

This week I have started modeling a new and interesting project on REVIT. Its actually a project that I have done a survey on with my colleagues. I have taken photos and posted them on the Facebook group a few weeks ago.
It´s a house built in the 1920's, 3 storey plus basement and attic. It's a beautiful house with arts and crafts style.
I really like the way that the british architecture is used ''against'' the weather conditions, including carpeted floors and stairs, increased insullation (around 100mm) thick cavity walls (400mm), wooden hardboards and radiators in almost every room, in this case(house) it has fireplaces.
Anyway, I have spent the week working on my previous project and this new one with the modelling of the site plus the house.
I am really learning a great deal up here! And I'm loving how professional people are here, and almost without noticing I am becoming also professional. =)
I have been learning better skills on REVIT, CAD, PHOTOSHOP and researching skills.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, yeah? =)

This Week

The project that I'm  working on for weeks is really "getting there", in other words, it has been changed so many times, but it is actually starting to look good! =)

It's nice be part of this company, in a very different  world and where everyone makes me feel at home.
My Boss has won an award this week, from a Care Center that he built, and he couldn't stop talking about it. He was very excited with the whole event which took place in London. First thing we all said after that was "straight to the Website". =D

Yesterday (Friday), after a long day of hard work, Joe(a colleague/friend also in University 3rd year) and I had to go with Jules (Julian Boswell_My Boss) to a site to help his carpenter carry wood panels (enormous), but I must say that although it was a bit exhausting, it was very fun.

And this week I have received my first payment!  I'm so not used to this, so I haven't even touched the money, because I think that at this moment I'm not really worried about that, but the experience instead. =)

Glad the week is finished, need some rest from all the cycling and hard work.

Until next time! =)

Differences

This week, starting from Friday I switched from 3Pounds a day in a bus to a free and more sporty way of getting to work. By cycling! =D

I have bought a brand new bike and will start cycling everyday from my house to Southampton train station (+/- 15min ) catch a train to Romsey (15min) and from Romsey station to work(20-25) and then  return.

Overall, I believe that my stay in Europe is helping me become more independent and deal with the tools that are given to me, which is good.

I am not only gaining experience in my course (Architecture), but also gaining experience in the office(which I believe that its what the Uni is aiming at), in other words, I am learning how to deal with my co-workers, how to work in group and learn the most out of each and every element of the company.
I feel that I am part of something progressive and feel needed and useful, cooperating for the growth of part of the country! =)
I am literally  helping to build th UK!

My skills are improving a lot, and I feel more confident  every single day.

I hope to carry this enthusiasm continuously throughout my entire career and make the most out of every single opportunity that is given to me.

Thank you CPUT, until next week.

Part of the Team

This week I went to two more site surveys !! =)
Took lots of photos for the company. One of them is actually a project that I've been working on for weeks on Revit. Through the ideas of Mr. Boswell (My Boss) I am developing a 3D model, plans, site plan, elevations and sections and interior perspectives of 3 to 4(still to be decided) storey care home.
It is a huge building that is being proposed, but has its values and purpose.
Most of the buildings in the UK are built with brickwork as an external finishing material, with some variations in a few cases.
I am still getting used to this HUGE change in my life, so I am still settling down. I am moving to my own apartment on Sunday, and I will start cycling to work daily, starting on Monday! It is cold up here, but we stay warm with good warm clothes and lots of tea and coffe! =D

So hoppefully everything will be alright and I shall do my best to keep up...

Until next week CPUT! =)

DIFFERENCE!!!

Well well...WHat you know...Another week gone so fast  and its already Friday...Weekend!!!! =)
After my second week at SHerlock Boswell I've just noticed,by stoping for a few swconds and I thought to myself «Wow!I've actually done it! I made it! I am in a competely different country...Where no one knows me!
I am making new friends from many different cultures...
I am learning so much about architecture...ABout the English architecture...I am getting really good at REVIT, its amazing what you can do when you just keep learning and learning! =)
This week I went to 2 site surveys! Really good getting out of the office every now and then...
We went to a place called called Melwood Walkhouse in New Forest, where King John used to do his hunting in the 12th Century... The House was built in the 1920's and the client that bought it wants to fix it up and do extensions... The house is built with brickwork external finish (as usual in the UK), with big oak windows and ancient materials and styles. The style is following the Arts and Crafts, where the client has also bought ancient furniture to match with it.I have taken photos that will be posted soon...
I must say, it really is beautiful here and I am glad I am having this opportunity. I have been really busy with work that my Boss has been giving me =). I am currently busy on a project in Copnor Road- Porthsmouth, building a retirement home for the elders. It really is interesting. And I have als been busy with other projects where I've help my coleague with.
Thank you CPUT for allowing the students of 2011 to explore more than the confined walls of Cape Town! =P
I will ''see'' you next week.

Cheers Mates! =D

Great Interview @ Sherlock Boswell

This week wasn't so bad...

I've been trying so hard to pull something out of the hat since I got to Europe...
Finally I've managed to succeed!! =)
After a few phone calls and some hard work on REVIT...Iwas able to be noticed and mark a meeting with my possible future boss.

On Friday I had to wake up at 6h30 a.m., take a Bus at 7h40, arrive at the train station at 8h00,catch a train (to ROMSEY) at 8h23, arrive at 8h38 and get a ride from "The Boss" at 8h55...

The meeting was swell. All I have to do now is just keep crossing my fingers...

Hoefully I'll get the job...After that I'll rent my one bedroom flat, and buy a bicycle! =D

Enjoy ur Weekend CPUT!

Another Hard Week in Southampton

Phone calls...all done...
Ups and downs here in Europe...
Was so close to getting one job...But the "employer" ended up giving up because he is very busy with deadlines and won't be able to give me a full time basis internship.

Luckily I have managed to find another company...Very good company...Its called "Sherlock Boswell", and they are actually looking for a temp...Lucky shot! I guess this is it...One shot...One chance...And intend to succeed in this one!!! =)

I had a really good conversation on the phone and they are interested in marking an interview with me! =)
The only weapon that I didn't have was REVIT as a subject at CPUT...Luckily, I have "played around" with it before! =) and Google Sketch Up...Which is pretty similar...

They asked me to send them a project in revit to prove that I can work in it...So I came up with a solution...By making a project, using my own learning in REVIT in about 24 hours...

So I have sent everything to them...Hope I make it this time! =D

Just Another Battle, Another Day...''THIS IS ME" Tiago Dos Santos

Tiago Miguel Pita Pereira Dos Santos
21 years old
Born in Portugal-Lisbon on the 24th April 1989
Taurus

Wow! My very firt Blog!!!Here we go! =)

This is a bit of me, the minor details of my life...
Lets talk about me in today's life...
Moved from Angola_Luanda to South Africa_Cape Town, where my life changed to the better...Sadly my family and friends where left behind, but in spite of all that, I've made new good friends =).
Milnerton High School is where I started, after that I "moved In" to CPUT!!!

In this wonderful place I am finnaly pursuing my goal, my dream I suppose. The first year was extremely difficult to overcome, however it was fun!
But this year (even though I'm still stuck in Angola ) =(, I have new expectations, exciting ones, I really can't wait to get out there and do my best!

I am planning to go to England this time, see new things, have different experiences, explore more, more challenges and open my mind even more!!

To me, Architecture is not just design, it is Life since the first day the caveman set foot on Earth! =P
It's our Past, Present and Future...Everything that the world is growing into, comes from architecture...And being part of that world where Imagination and Creativity that comes out of our little minds, becomes Reality, makes me fulfilled in this short life! =)

I collect everything I can...Not only objects or personal stuff, but things I learn in life such as general knowledge, History, names, experiences, friends, memories, music, lyrics, poems, all sorts off common and new feelings, anything I want...

Definitely, my top getaway is a quiet beach, preferably when the sun is setting down....

My fisrt passion, is Life! I like it, I enjoy it to the max, I Love it, I Live it!!!Learning new things, forgeting about the "rules" sometimes...And just enjoy the very small things... =)
After that comes everything else...Family, friends, the girl of my dreams =)....Soccer, travelling, acting, movies,Comedy,"Family Guy",video games, music,Coca Cola,Pizza, Mc Donalds, "Funge"....

I find my inspiration from, Nature, Animals, people, drawings,conversations,books,magazines,television,music...Everything I see, hear, feel!!!

I love the sound of an acoustic guitar, a piano, Selah Sue's voice, the laugh of a baby is the most innocent one and pure...I fancy the good ol' British accent, sounds so cool when you say it right, you should try it ;) =P...House music in the car or in an open club takes me away...

Out of all the places that I been so far, I must say that my favourite city is no other than, CAPE TOWN!!!! Where we have all 4 stations in one day, but people are still warm, welcoming and you can do anything you want, just believe it! The only sad part is the cold water at the beach, but we still manage... =P

At the moment I am reading a book by José Saramago, a portuguese writter...Interrnational best seller, winner of a nobel prize for literature and now a motion picture...."Blindness".

For all of those who know me well, they will know who my Best artist is out of the many favorites I have...
The best guitar player with a killing voice... John Mayer!

To conclude this "piece of my mind", I refer back to architecture...My favorite architect at the moment, is Inspiring, Innovative, very Popular, Legendary, Distinctive, Intelligent and Creative... Frank Lloyd Wright!

Thank you for "knowing me better"...
I will be back for more...Stay tunned...
Thank you

Tiago Dos Santos.
